This 30-day program is designed to be onsite for exposure to and development of those skills necessary to successfully pass NAVHDA’s Natural Ability Test. These include on leash / lead / check cord for search, pointing, tracking of live game birds and water retrieve of training bumpers. Place Training, Introduction to Heeling, Obedience while on lead and cooperation to recall to whistle / voice / audible tone will be emphasized.

This training will lay a solid foundation for progression to Heeling (on and off lead), extended scent drags, Duck Searches, Trained Retrieve and eventual NAVDHA Utility Test.

This two week program will expose your gundog to game birds prior to opening day. It is geared towards seasoned gundogs and gives them reps over live gamebirds in the field. Steadiness and retrieve of shot birds will be emphasized.

Working with our Professional Gundog Training partners (NC, SC, WI, MN, KS and SD), this program is an advanced in-depth instruction to Gundog Steadiness as defined by the following criteria:
“Steady to Flush” begins when the dog is aware of the presence of the handler. Think of “Steady to Flush” as behavior during the flushing period. The steady to flush judgment ends when the bird leaves the ground.
“Steady to Wing” begins when the bird leaves the ground and ends then the gun is fired.
“Steady to Shot” begins when the gun is fired and ends when the bird hits the ground.
“Steady to Fall” Judging “Steady to Fall” begins when the bird hits the ground and ends when the dog is sent for the retrieve.
Steadiness on game and eventually at the blind needs to be 100% in all achievable circumstances and is a stringent requirement for the eventual NAVDHA Utility and AKC Master Hunter Tests.

Advanced High Altitude (30-day) Conditioning & Training

High Altitude Conditioning Camp
A limited number of slots (5 per location) are available for 30-day high altitude (April - September) conditioning training in the Wyoming Tetons or Big Horns at 7500-10,950 feet in altitude or the Western Carolina Smokies at 4500-6500 feet in altitude. This conditioning will allow your gundog to run all day during hunting season and work off any extra winter lbs. In addition, exposure to alpine runoff will condition each participant to cold water stream crossings and warm temperatures of the mountain valleys.

Show Ring Preparation Camp
A limited number of slots (5 per location) are available for 15-day show ring preparation camp. Working with our professional handlers / trainers, the fundamentals of presentation in the Show Ring are taught so as to qualify for International / National Conformation Show Titles with International All Breed Canine Association (IABCA). Note: a pre-evaluation as to the adherence to Breed Standard is required prior to the start of training.
